Healthy Children

We teach children about, and encourage them to act in line with, both British values and the values inherent in the Sikh faith.

At Khalsa we are fully committed to improving the health of our children and families. We are part of the Healthy Schools London initiative which means we have an action plan in place to help children make better eating choices and to increase their physical activity.

Our kitchen provides children with a wide range of choice every day. Children are always given a choice of freshly prepared food, including a salad bar. Our children love eating lunch here and our kitchen staff work hard to make sure they are well fed with healthy options.

In the classroom, our children are taught specifically about making healthy choices. Through PSHE, Science, PE and DT, children revisit the ways in which they can select and prepare healthy foods and also how they can stay active, reducing the risks associated with obesity. We work closely with the council and other parties to ensure that we have a range of opportunities for children and families to take part in healthy eating activities.

We are also dedicated to teaching our children about positive mental and emotional health. Our PSHE curriculum focuses specifically on issues that everyone faces form time to time. We have a wellbeing program which gives children the tools with which to deal with anxiety, stress or conflict. Where necessary, children are able to speak with a counsellor that we have on site and further to that, all of our staff is trained to spot the issues around mental and emotional health.
